Teaching Community Phase Model

For the 2025-26 academic year we are introducing a phased model for Teaching Communities.

Inception Phase

  • Newly proposed.
  • Goals are developing.
  • It may be experimental year, no minimum membership required.
  • Deliverables will be a summary containing initial insights (e.g., what gaps does your community fill, what other opportunities exist, etc.)

Continuing Phase (year 2 and 3)

  • Clearly articulated goals and outcomes.
  • Stable and/or increasing membership.
  • Regular meetings.
  • Community will share takeaways with peers outside of the immediate group.

Mature Phase (year 4 or 5):

  • Highly functioning.
  • Growing membership.
  • Insights or resources are shared through participation in University events (e.g., panels, presentations, website summaries etc.) to benfit the broader teaching community at Penn State.
